Fibromyalgia (FMS) is a persistent and debilitating disorder which causes extensive musculoskeletal pain, fatigue and tenderness throughout the body. FMS is associated with multiple dysfunctions in the body. It can be caused by genetics, illness, or emotional/physical trauma. There is currently no cure. Women are affected more than men by the disorder at a ratio of 9:1.

Treatments for Fibromyalgia

Lyrica® is the only approved medication. Studies show that 47% of patients achieve a 25 % reduction in pain. This reduction in pain reduction is associated with an improved quality of life, but, again, is not a cure.

How We Treat Fibromyalgia

Unfortunately, there isn’t a magic therapy, medication or procedure. At New Life Medical Group, we help FMS patients achieve a better quality of life and mitigate the cellular damage from the disease by using any or all therapies available.

First, it is vital for FMS patients to live a healthy lifestyle. These changes are relatively simple to institute but do take determination. As many, if not all, toxins need to be eliminated from one’s lifestyle such as smoking, mold from the environment, and environmental and food chemicals.

Diet is the next important piece. Some components of what most people referred to as the anti-inflammatory diet may be very helpful in reducing inflammation and, consequently, pain. Vitamin E and vitamin C are important in the processes involved in inflammation, thus we review our patients’ nutrients to ensure they have healthy amounts of these nutrients in their diet or supplemented as needed.

With a focus on diet, we are also decreasing the amount of radicals in one’s body, which are a source of inflammation, by utilizing glutathione peroxidase enzyme. By reviewing our patients’ nutrients, how they digest and absorb nutrients, and even testing for the naturally occurring enzymes that fight inflammation, we can determine a plan of action to get your body in balance. As needed, patients are supplemented with intravenous treatments to expedite delivery of the nutrients.

New Life Medical Group also utilizes hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) for the management of FMS patients and other chronic pain syndromes.

  • HBOT can help relieve FMS pain, function and normalize brain activity according to Ben- Jacob, PhD at Rice University.
  • FMS can be triggered by different events. One example event triggering FMS is traumatic brain injury. In these cases HBOT can have amazing results.

In summary, New Life Medical Group helps fibromyalgia patients restore their bodies to their best possible condition and restore neuronal regeneration by combining the aforementioned therapies.
